Is it just me or is every week a Restaurant Week??

Not that I’m complaining…but still.  It seems like every time I turn around it’s another RW.  (P.S. It’s impossible for me to write “turn around” w/o breaking into song in my head.  “TURN AROUND…every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you’re never comin’ round…TURN AROUND Bright Eyes!” )  Excellent.  Will have that in my head for the rest of the afternoon.  Similarly, I can’t say the word “situation” any longer without thinking of my favorite Thursday night guilty pleasure.  GTL 4 Life, yo.

mike "the situation"

Okay, okay – back to business…

My personal favorites included in this list are Ecco (don’t forget to get a bottle of my favorite wine!), Pacci and Serpas, but overall this is a nice selection of restaurants for an excellent deal.  Don’t miss out, but honestly if you do, I’m sure that it will be Midtown RW again in a month or two.  Just sayin’…  :)

(Hope Mickie D’s doesn’t lawyer me for borrowing their slogan for my lil’ post…  I’m v. nice + I love your $1 ice cream.  I do!)

So, y’all, work is busy for me right now – but I still have a lot to tell you.  Particularly about a few things I’ve been lovin’ lately…

1- Shorty’s Short Van.  Shorty’s – one of my favorite pizza joints in Atlanta - has a new marketing mobile.  Love!

Shorty's short van

2- The Life Is A Runway Blog.  The amazing Mrs. Jessica Liszt, shares her impeccible style with us daily in her new fashion blog.  I’ve been constantly reading it, and admittedly I’m not a biggest blog reader…  Check it out – you’ll love her stylish tidbits:  http://www.jlrunway.blogspot.com/

mrs. lizst, fashion blogger extraordinare

3- Giant Bears for Sale @ Costco.  I went to Costco for my first time ever (“Hi, my name is Lindsay, and I’m a Sam’s Club member) on Saturday and fell in love.  Just saying…

love at first sight

4- Little Kids in Jeggings…  Cari celebrated her big 3-0 over the weekend.  Happy birthday, CB!  We partied at the birthday girl’s diggs w/ a bouncy castle + all.  Please witness this awesomeness:

brilliant

My favorite part, however, was meeting her mini-fashionista niece who was sporting tiny tot jeggings.  The cutest!  Q+DD trivia: Our trend alert about “jeggings” is our second most viewed post next to the one about ”SHARK WEEK!”

so freaking adorable, i can't stand it.

5- My new Stella & Dot earrings.  Aren’t these gorgeous?  They are the Deco Drop earrings from Stella & Dot’s Fall/Winter collection.  Very glam for only $39.  BTW: My friend, Meagan, who just hosted a super-fun S&D trunk show at my place would be more than happy to be your rep: www.stelladot.com/meaganb  :)

love their fall/winter collection...

6- Zooey Deschanel.  I just kind of want to be her.  I re-watched 500 Days of Summer over the weekend and fell in love with her all over again.  Plus, I love that she was in Elf  and rocks out in the very rad indie band, She & Him.

she & him

7- These shoes!  Going out to buy them this afternoon.  Thanks, DSW, for the nifty $10 off coupon I received in the mail yesterday and I fully plan to cash in today.  Just thanks.

you're MINE!

That’s about all for now…  :)

My very lovely friend, M. Reynolds, and I met for lunch yesterday.

m. reynolds

Since she hadn’t been to Bakeshop before, we decided to meet there around noonish to take advantage of the Concentrics Group’s Summer Swag promotion: http://snipurl.com/xsnd2

outside

inside

We each ordered a tasty sandwich (fancy grilled chix for M. Reynolds + curried chix salad for moi), and we shared a very rich chocolate souffle for dessert ALL for a whopping $10.00 – thanks to the marvelous Swag promotion.  Seriously – take advantage of it!  It’s such a great deal.

However, writing about our lunch date isn’t the point of this post.  (I’ve already blabbed about Bakeshop – been there + done that.)  What I really want to tell y’all about is this adorable special they have going on during the summer on Sunday afternoons:  Every Sunday in June, July + August from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Bakeshop wants you to stop by for a housemade waffle + specialty topping + a scoop of vanilla ice cream for $5.00.

(LK taught me how to post fliers last night.  Thank you. Thank you.  I hope she’s proud!)

Isn’t that a precious idea?  Sundays are meant to be decadent days!  I think this is so cute for a date, too.   :)

Also, I saw another flier during M. Reynolds + my lunch for a 4th of July event @ Bakeshop – a pancake breakfast!!  From 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., enjoy all you can eat blueberry, plain or whole wheat pancakes and fresh seasonal fruit for $10.00.  It’s the perfect post-race carb delight for Peachtree Road Race runners!  What better way to kick off the holiday?

FINALLY…next time you are in Bakeshop, puh-lease try one of their amazing chocolate croissants.  Trust me.  They are divine, dah-ling, divine.

worth it.

Dana is about to get hitched in a little over a week, and she’s been incredibly busy running around to take care of last minute wedding-related errands.  We usually see each other pretty frequently for lunch, but with work picking up for me and her wedding errands, we decided that if we were going to meet, it was going to have to be for a super fast lunch during the week.  She was working downtown and I am in midtown, so we decided to meet at EVOS at the bottom of the Viewpoint building since neither of us had tried it yet and we were both itching to go.

the bride-to-be + me

I’ve blogged about it before, but as a reminder:  EVOS is an alternative fast food franchise (also in CA, FL and NC) specializing in healthy and environmentally sound eats, featuring soy, veggie, turkey and salmon burgers, fruit smoothies and their signature Airfries.  They Airbake (of course) their Airfries instead of deep-frying, which saves us 50-70% of the fat.  Also, they cater.  Awesome.  The company website describes the restaurant chain as inspired, energetic, real, philanthropic, culturally plugged in, adventurous, respectful, fresh and forward thinking.”  Even before I actually went, I wanted to give this restaurant a hug.

Dana and I both ordered the Steakburger + Airfries. The Steakburger was a bit on the dry side, but was still good enough to finish - and we certainly felt better eating it than we would have any other fast food hamburger.  The Airfries were delicious.  They did not taste lowfat at all, even though the restaurant insists that they are.  I’m still not 100% convinced, though…

EVOS steakburger + airfries

EVOS steakburger + airfries

When I got up to refill my fountain soda + get some more ketchup for our Airfries, I saw a flier with EVOS’s daily specials listed on it, AND I’d like to share that w/ y’all:

(Refresh) Mondays:  Receive a FREE Regular Shake or Drink with the purchase of any Hand-Tossed Salad.

(Truly Awesome) Tuesdays:  Receive a FREE Regular order of Airfries & Drink with the purchase of an EVOS Original Steakburger.

(Wrap-it-up) Wednesdays:  Receive a FREE Regular Shake with the purchase of any Wrap.

(Thankful) Thursdays:  Receive a FREE Organic Cookie with the purchase of a Warm Veggie Chili Value Meal.

Isn’t alliteration fun, kids?!

(Hot Dog It’s) Fridays:  Receive a FREE 2nd Hot Dog with the purchase of an Adult Hot Dog Value Meal.

(Shake-it-up) Saturdays:  Receive a FREE Shake with the purchase of a Shake of equal or lesser value.

(Family Fun) Sundays:  Receive a FREE Kids Meal w/ drink with the purchase of any Adult Meal.

These are pretty good deals, and EVOS is worth a try – especially if you take advantage of one of the freebies listed above.  I don’t think that this chain is for everyone, but I will probably eat there again when I want to splurge on a fast food, basic hamburger + fries, but I don’t want to destroy my diet for the week or feel guilty about it.

I’m definitely interested to know what y’all think.

Scoutmob is pretty much determining where I am dining these days…  Atlanta has such a great restaurant scene, and there are so many places to try – it can become a bit overwhelming.  Thankfully, Scoutmob has easily solved that for me with their 50% off promotions.  Easily.

Michelle + I both quickly grabbed the Scoutmob promotion for Nakato when it was offered up and few weeks ago, and we set a hot date for hibachi.

michelle + me

Nakato is a Japanese restaurant that’s been around for a while located on Cheshire Bridge close to Piedmont.  Although it is surrounded by strip clubs and XXX stores, the restaurant is v. hard to miss with its traditional architecture and sculptured bushes.

When you walk into Nakato, you’ll find the sushi room directly in front of you.  To your left, is the expansive hibachi room + private tatami rooms for groups.

sushi room

tatami room

Nakato’s hibachi is better than fair.  I’ve been to hibachi restaurants in Atlanta where the chefs have had a bit more personality (i.e. Orient Express in Vinings – LOVE), but Nakato will do – especially with the 50% off Scoutmob…

Has anyone’s hair ever caught on fire?  I couldn’t help but think about how many flammable products I put into mine before my date w/ Mich when this happened…

ahhhhhh!

Mich ordered sushi, which we both thought was very fresh and well-priced.  My hibachi was okay.  It’s always a fun experience to do hibachi every so often (remember not to wear nice clothes – you reek afterwards), but I think I forgot exactly how much food it actually was going to end up being…  I left the restaurant almost doubled over because I was so full.  I really do need to work on my will power.  :(

After our server processed the Scoutmob 50% off discount, our final bill was only $12 per person!!  I couldn’t BELIEVE how cheap it was!  Although the meal was just fine – nothing really to write home about, the discount made it totally worth it.  So, for all you recessionistas who are in the mood for sushi or hibachi, grab the Scoutmob discount on your iPhone and head on over to Nakato.  (If you don’t have the Scoutmob discount, though, I’d suggest driving to Orient Express, instead.)

Q+DD on Nakato’s Happy Hour:
$3 wines by the glass
$3 sushi rolls
$5 speciality cocktails
$15 for a drink + 5 appetizers!  (EXCELLENT DEAL!!)

Thanks to Ms. Ellen T who was sporting an amazing work-to-evening dress at book club last night…

yep, that's her.

…I found out that Calvin Klein in Lenox Mall is going out of business on June 25.

what's the deal, calvin?

So, listen up Recessionistas + bargain shoppers: Everything is on major, major sale – most items are 50% off (male + female stuff).  I made out like a bandit today during my lunch trip to the mall, walking away with a rehearsal dinner dress for the Benator wedding this weekend and a large shopping bag full of other items I just. could. not. live. without.

hasta luego...

The sales guys told me that everything they have in the store is out on the sales floor – and it’s a ton of stuff.  It’s moving fast, though – Ellen’s dress was already sold out.  RUN, people, RUN!

Fun fact: Calvin Klein was one of Lenox Mall’s original tenants.  (sad.)

Have y’all been to Fox’s?

Fox's: Designer Off Price

I completely forgot about Fox’s and rediscovered it on Sunday while I was in Buckhead and in desperate need of some retail therapy.  On Sunday morning, Slick’s car got towed, my car battery died and I couldn’t find my digital camera.  NIGHTMARE.  Once we got everything sorted out, I needed to go shopping to relieve stress + make myself feel a little better.  I realized that I left my digital camera at the table at Goldberg’s, where we’d eaten brunch, so I made my way up Roswell Rd. to retrieve it.  On the way back, I spotted Fox’s and decided to stop in.

Years ago, I’d shopped there a few times and really liked it.  I never left the store empty-handed, and frankly I’m not sure why I stopped going.  Anyway, as soon as I walked in, I felt home again.  Fox’s has racks and racks of what appear to me to be Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s type clothing – brands you definitely see in those department stores – for a fraction of the price.  It’s like a boutique version of Loehmann’s, but much easier to navigate.

I left the store $108 later with a fantastic (I’d say “fabulous,” but that word is so 2006) belted jacket, an adorable embroidered beach cover up and a really cool exposed zipper black tank top.  Although I will always love getting excellent deals at my beloved F21, Fox’s is going to be my first shopping stop from now on.  I mean, Tahari and BCBG dresses starting at $80…don’t mind if I do!

Fox's fliers

We only have one location in Atlanta, but there are tons of others on the e. coast:
http://www.foxs.com/store/store.htm

P.S. Fox’s has Loehmann’s style dressing rooms w/o curtains – so leave your super sexy Hanky Pankys at home, ladies.

I realize that this is not new and sexy news…at all…but I recently joined the eBay community.  I sold a really great purse and a North Face jacket a few weeks ago – my first sales on eBay ever!  Now, I’m kind of addicted to looking up auctions and brainstorming what else I don’t use anymore that I can sell.  A couple of days ago, I was bragging to a friend of mine about my recent sales, and she told me about this new auction site started by Emory grads.  I’m into the whole “keeping it local” mindset, so I perused the website and I think it looks kinda cool…

happy to support your local business (it's the Austin in me...)

It’s called WAVEE.com and here’s the Q+DD:

WAVEE.com is a new online auction site that four Emory grads launched in November 2009.  Wavee allows consumers to maximize their dollars while competing with other shoppers for massive discounts on electronics – all you need is an Internet connection and you can do it from anywhere.

The concept is simple, you join the Wavee community and buy credits for 60-cents a piece and you’re ready to start bidding.  Using your credits you’ll bid against other shoppers for the item of your choice at a very low price (typically 70-90 percent off retail).  It is an auction, but if you don’t win the new item you can reinvest the money you spent bidding to buy the item at retail cost.  So, there is no risk involved.

In March, the company added even more value to every dollar spent by launching a new rewards store, giving consumers the opportunity to earn points that can later be redeemed for products in the store.  In honor of the launch, Wavee is offering everyone 20 free credits to use for auctions on the side.  Here’s the code: ATLFREE202.

Check it out and let me know what you think.  Good luck!

xx, L
