Hooray for fall!  Hooray for chili!  Hooray for Cabbagetown!  Hooray for Chomp and Stomp weekend!  (It’s really as simple as that.)

One of Atlanta’s greatest festivals is this weekend, y’all!  :)

Here’s the Q+DD on Chomp and Stomp:
Cabbagetown’s blue collar history is well-known in Atlanta.  Once an old mill workers’ neighborhood, the area now is more known for its trendy boutiques and bohemian lifestyle.  Chomp and Stomp combines Cabbagetown’s roots with traditional blue grass music and a chili cook off.  Enjoy the pleasant fall air and traditional music of the area while eating some competition-worthy chili.  If you are so inclined, there is also a 5k race that kicks off the festival. This event is just another reason why Atlanta is known as the hostess city of the South!

Timing: Saturday, November 5, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
$$$: Only $5 per Spoon for Chili!
Location Info: Cabbagetown is WHERE, exactly??
Music Scoop: Let’s get our stomp on, shall we?!
2010 Winners: Chili Masters

This is such a fun event w/ so much personality that you WILL NOT want to miss!  (Sadly, I’ve been out of town for it over the past two years…  Tragic.)

But, here are a few of our pics from Chomp and Stomp ’09:

It’s supposed to be gorgeous this weekend, too!  Be there or be square, Atlantans.  And FYI, get there early – sometimes the chili runs out.

Happy Chomp and Stomp weekend!

Today is my first day back at work after being off for three consecutive snow days this week.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m ready.  Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed catching up on my online shopping + reality TV, but I did not particularly love being confined to my condo.  Although, I guess I really wasn’t b/c when cabin fever set in I braved the icy weather to get some fresh air from time to time over the past few days:

Day 1 – The Great Freeze: Walked to Piedmont Park to watch competitive air mattress-sledding + throw around ice snow balls w/ Slick.

Day Two – Who Ya Callin’ Stir Crazy?: Off to The Nook!  Thank goodness they were open.  (P.S. It’s an awesome place to warm up  w/ comfort food + fishbowls during serious winter weather.)

Day Three – Are We Really Still Off From Work?!: Dinner + Drinks @ TAP to celebrate.

(Each time I go to TAP, I like it more + more.  It’s slowly becoming one of my favorite local Midtown bars.)

It was a fun snowcation, but alas it must come to and end + finally it’s“back to life, back to real.i.ty.”  That is if I don’t die while ice skating down Juniper to get to my office today…  Wish me luck!

How’d you spend your snowcation??

I finally saw The Buckhead Theatre on Saturday, and it is absolutely fantastic!

I could hardly believe how much nicer it was than the old Roxy, where I went to see G. Love approx. 4 1/2 years ago and I witnessed a hardcore drug deal go down + someone peeing in the corner of the venue.  True story.  What a dump!  The newly-renovated Buckhead Theatre, however, is a venue fit for an amazing party of almost any sort, a fun corporate/industry event or an awesome concert where people aren’t confused if the line for the bar is actually a line for the urinal…

So, on Saturday, we went to the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta Young Leadership Council’s Signature Event at the Theatre.  And, it was a blast!  :)

We had cocktails in the prefunction area for an hour or two, and then headed into the main theatre space for the event.  The stage was perfect for the DJ, and the set up was just superb.  I was really impressed with the seated lounge areas with plush couches + tables in the upper part of the space closer to the main doors.  And, the bathrooms were immaculate- absolutely without a hint of the old Rox.  The whole time we were there I was envisioning throwing an event for work in the space.  It’s THAT put together.

I have to admit that my heart truly belongs to the event space @ 200 Peachtree, but if it was booked I’d be calling up The Buckhead Theatre faster than you could say Rumpelstiltskin.  No seriously, that word has four syllables.

Info abt. Upcoming Shows @ The Buckhead Theatre: HERE!

I really, really heart you Buckhead Theatre!  Welcome.

I’m a martini drinker.

me + martini

But, I have three critical martini-related rules.

(Please take note if you plan on ever ordering me a drink..)

Rule #1:  Under no circumstance do I want olives anywhere in or around my drink.  Ick!  HATE olives.  It’s a shame, too, because olives adore me…

Rule #2:  I want to be able to taste the vodka in my martini.  I am an adult – I am not 19 years old and I don’t want to be consuming mostly liqueur.  Thank you very much!  (A few too many nights at Carlos + Charlies in Puerto Vallarta put me off of sweet drinks fo’ life…)

Rule #3:  If I am drinking a martini, I’m going to be seated.  The martini glass is an incredibly poorly designed alcohol vehicle.  Further, I wear heels when I go out – but I am not great in them.  I’m telling you, I know my limitations, you do not want to be anywhere near me when I have a martini glass in my hand and I’m standing up.  I spill them when I’m sitting down!  So please bring the drink to me at a table and we won’t have to worry about our clothes making an immediate dry cleaning trip in the morning.  :)

Moving on…

I love Holeman + Finch.  (This all ties together, I promise.)  I just love it.  The food is excellent, the scene is superb and I really like the staff.  They are hipster w/o the grease + cut off jean shorts.  And, they are super friendly and attentive.  The high boys in the bar are my favorite location at Holeman to plop down + have a few drinks and small plates.

holeman

So, I’m there on Friday w/ EZ, Ms. Meri + Loren (not Lauren) and we’re ordering our second round of drinks when our server informs me that my go-to-Gimlet is kind of a boring order.  I quickly assess him and realize that (1) he is wearing skinny jeans (funny + appropriate hipster-waiter attire, which I applaud) and that (2) I’m fairly certain he looks like he knows what he is talking about, so instead of taking offense – I ask for his expert advice.  I made sure he was clear re. my three martini-related rules and he said he’d run with it.  A few minutes later as we were all digging into the Holeman 10:00 p.m. burger that we’d patiently been waiting for since 8:00 p.m., our server came back to the table with my drink.  BIG problem.  He tells me there’s gin in it.  Gin??  I don’t drink GIN.  I drink VODKA!  Needless to say, I’m incredibly skeptical…

However, all it took was one magical sip to win me over.  I like gin!  Who would have thought?!

certainly not us...

I mean it when I say that this was the best drink I’ve had in my life.  It was like flying.  Like a day at the beach.  Like winning a new car on The Price is Right!!

"one dollar, bob!"

The drink was an AVIATIONSayonara, Gimlet, you’ve officially been replaced…

behold its majesty

My old partner in crime, Mindy, is in town and last night we cooked dinner for her family, and then scooted over to Ormsby’s.  We were there for one drink + a meet up w/ the famous FB, when I heard the Aviation summoning me from Holeman.  So, at 11:00 p.m. on a Monday night we headed to Holeman for a late night burger + a few Aviations.  I’m addicted.

It really is the most amazing drink.  You don’t taste the gin too much, it’s not too sweet at all and it’s surprisingly refreshing.   (“it’s magically delicious!”)

mindy + me + martini = perfection. (math is fun!)

You have to try an Aviation immediately.  Order it @ Holeman tonight.  Seriously!  Or, learn how to make it yourself + impress your friends:

Ingredients:

2 oz of Gin
1/4 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Dash of Creme de Violette (optional)
Flamed Lemon Peel for Garnish (optional)

Directions:

Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled w/ ice
Shake shake shake…
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
Garnish
Sip + Enjoy! :)

Over the weekend, I was on a serious hunt for a pair of jeggings.  I asked Meri to accompany me on my shopping voyage to (a) make sure I didn’t get lost at Phipps (she’s seasoned)and (b) provide honest feedback regarding the jeggings + Lindsay collaboration.  After I successfully spotted, tried on and purchased my very first pair of jeggings from Armani Exchange, we set off to find some comfortable over-sized shirts to pair with my new purchase.  We weeded through a number of tempting, overpriced options at Intermix, Barneys Co-Op and Saks, but I didn’t find anything I truly loved.  Meri suggested that I try American Apparel.  Meri is brilliant.

American Apparel in Buckhead, situated in the strip beside Lenox Mall next to Tootsies and Fab’rik, is enormous compared to the smaller version I frequent in Little Five Points.  AA has the world’s softest t-shirts (fact.) and they are excellent quality.  I hate when t-shirts lose their shape or pill after only a few washes, but I’ve never had trouble with my AAs.

Not only does American Apparel carry excellent, versatile t-shirts, but they also have an impressive variety of mostly solid colored leggings, hoodies, tights, belts, dresses and skirts that are perfect to spice up a tired winter wardrobe.  I am big on layering shirts, so I was in heaven at the massive AA in Buckhead.  I did some serious damage.

(Happy Hanukkah to me! :) )

Below are a few of my favorite purchases from my spree at American Apparel yesterday:

Ribbed Nylon Spandex Leggings: $36

If you are looking for creative gift ideas or for fashionable basics to add to your cold-weather-armor, American Apparel has a lot of great stuff in store for the holidays.  Also, don’t forget to check out their hip vintage eyewear collection.  I have such a weakness for large sunglasses…   Happy holiday shopping!

(P.S. Do everything you can to avoid Lenox Mall’s parking garage and lots = nightmare.)
