Things are so busy over here in Camp Kraselsky I haven’t had a minute to TELL you about all the fun stuff that’s been going on!

I’m afraid you’ll have to bear with me just a little bit longer
because…if you can believe it…I am STILL celebrating this dang 30th birthday and will be entertaining my NYC girls and DC Dana here in the A starting TOMORROW

Can't wait to have you in Atlanta, Jess, Randi, LoPo and Ali!

You too, DC Dana!

So between recovering from last weekend and preparing for this one…I don’t know if I’m coming or going!

But stay tuned. I can’t wait to tell you all about the:

  • Delicious OTP dinner I had at Purple Rain in Duluth with gorgeous Mandy Nuwar (of Premier PR) and lovely beauty/health/wellness writer Laura Carson Miller!
  • Super fun and very informative evening I spent with Registered Dietitian and author of the F-Factor Diet, Tanya Zuckerbrot (oh, and her delicious line of F-Factor foods I have been living on…available at Kroger NOW!)
  • Adorable book we just read for my book club: The Overnight Socialite by Birdie Clark
  • Killer workouts I have been having with my wonderful trainer Brad Kolowich, Jr
  • Surprises we have planned for Camp Dance 2011 (04/30/11) and
  • 3.0 Launch Party at the Livingston! (including my posh stay at the historic Georgian Terrace, the amazing Cheryl Koeth who put it together, and my brilliant photographer Jon Ruby who snapped all the pictures!)

Plus all kinds of other great things!

So, I’m still alive, but if you want to find me this weekend…I’m officially on STAY-CATION, baby! (try the shops, the restaurants, the spas… I love you, Atlanta!)

You know my heart belongs to Atlanta and ever since I traded the Big Apple for Georgia Peaches in July of ’05, I’ve never looked back.

However, that didn’t stop me from having the TIME OF MY LIFE this weekend celebrating Randi’s BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday, Randela!

If you happen to be making a trip to NYC anytime soon, let me point out a few highlights from my trip:

1.    Soul Cycle – It’s like a dance club and a spin class all rolled into one.  My girls have been RAVING about it forever and now I know why!  It’s an AMAZING workout and we had a BLAST.  If you have the opportunity to try it out, I recommend it 100%.  3 NYC locations: Upper East, Upper West, and Tribeca (even one in the Hamptons!) Visit Soul Cycle for more information and be sure to reserve a bike well ahead of time, there wasn’t a seat to be had!

2.   Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa – Jess and I had massages at the Flagship 5th Avenue Red Door Spa

between 54th and 55th

…complete with complimentary makeup touch ups by Monique…a Sophia Loren lookalike who has been working at the spa since…well…suffice it to say she’s been there a long time and has done a TON of makeup. So when Monique recommended the Flawless Finish Mousse Makeup, who were we to refuse?  SO glad we took her advice, it’s perfect for summer. The makeup comes out light and airy and it doesn’t sit on your skin like most foundations will in hot humid weather.  LOVE.

3.    Blow-Outs at Salon Nouvelle – I hesitate to tell you because I think this is the city’s best kept secret. Amazing hair for a mere $30 at this discreet little salon on 1st Avenue at 61st street.  (212) 813-0736 for an appointment.

(Another option: if you’re closer to Murray Hill…I used to be a blow-out regular at Monhair on 3rd Avenue between 36th and 37th.  I heard today my girl is still there!  Ask for Lolita and tell her Lorena sent you! (212) 447-7744 for an appointment)

4.    Dinner at Lure FishbarIt was love at first bite. Lure is the cutest little seafood restaurant located directly underneath the SoHo Prada store at Mercer and Prince. I chose the miso-glazed salmon over crispy soba noodles and it was to DIE for.  I was able to steal bites of the girls seafood platters, scallops, and various other fish dishes – everything was excellent.  Plus, inside is cute and swank all at the same time…perfect place for our perfect dinner!

5.    Drinks at Betel in the West VillageLOVED Betel.  This Asian-Fusion resto was a really fun location for post-dinner drinks.   It’s very nondescript (in fact, you could easily miss it!) and understated and with ample bar seating for a small-ish joint, it was the perfect place to accommodate the flood of people who showed up to celebrate Randi’s birth!  The drinks were DELICIOUS – we especially liked the Tart ‘n Tasty – made with lychee juice and ginger (You know how I usually shy away from anything with a kitchy name…but this drink was fantastic and not too sweet!)

(The cutie in the middle is Randy's Mister!)

6.    Brunch at The Smith – catty-corner from my old East Village Karaoke standby Nevada Smith’sThe Smith really hit the spot for brunch. Mostly, I just loved hanging with 4 of my favorite people over egg white mushroom and fontina omelets and complimentary bloody marys!

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see my girls and the wonderful guys they love…

but I have to say – of all the cute couples I know in The City, my favorite pair is undoubtedly these two:

…Don’t worry, A+E…Aunt LK will be back soon!

This bulletin just in from the Department of the Obvious: Women tend to have strong preferences when it comes to their personal style.  Especially their clothes. Further bulletins as events warrant.

(Thank you.)

So yeah,  we’ve all got very particular ideas about what we’d like to look like at almost any hour of the day. Save the precious sweat pant clad evening on the couch with your DVR or the quick workout in your old sorority t-shirt, I think it’s fair to say that we are disinterested in removing ourselves from the world of fashion for almost any length of time and this definitely applies to the 9 months a woman spends while being pregnant.

Now, I don’t know this from personal experience (I mean, yes, I do have a baby, but she’s furry and instead of giving birth, I simply picked her up from a Yorkshire terrier breeder south of the airport)

However, I do know some pretty fashionable ladies who have totally rocked the “with child” look.  For example:

Jess at her baby shower in NYC...mere weeks before the twins

Always fabulous Gretchen on her last day before being a full-time mommy!

Amy lookin’ gorgeous while being a total trooper at LK/EZ Bday Bash this year

Yep, it seems that the modern woman is trading in the tent dress for maternity Sevens…and from what I hear, it’s not easy.  Enter Amy Koch, author of BUMP IT UP:  Transform Your Pregnancy into the Ultimate Style Statement
Here’s the Q+DD on AK: She’s a NBC Trend Reporter, Vogue Style Expert, Twitter Mom Style Expert, Contributor to The New York Times, Town & Country, Travel + Leisure, INC., New York Observer and the Huffington Post and a mother of two. Her book, Bump it Up, promises to help “turn nine months of potential frump into mega maternity moxie” by offering style tips and tricks through each trimester and beyond.  BONUS: the book includes sketches from today’s most popular fashion designers, including Nicole Miller, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, and Isaac Mizrahi.

In celebration of her super awesome book, Amy is on tour and will be making her way to the A on March 30th and all you gorgeous pregnantistas (and your friends) are invited!

Here’re the deets:
When: Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 7pm-10pm
Where: W Perimeter 111 Perimeter Center West ATL, GA 30346 (770) 396-6800
What: Pampering treatments (oxygen blasts, neck massages) by BLISS Spa, faux glow bar by LANCOME, bra fitting and shapewear tutorial by WACOAL, book signing by Amy Tara Koch, fashion demo by Amy Tara Koch with Izzy Maternity, mega gift bag & raffle of Britax car seat, Medela breast pump, Baby Bjorn, Sittercity Membership, Babymoon at W, Pre-natal spa service by Bliss.  Sponsored by PAMPERS, TIDE, BRITAX, BABY BJORN, and WACOAL.

Awesome!

I LOVE that she is pairing up with Izzy Maternity! If you’re not familiar with this store and you are even considering having a childyou just have to go visit our friend Hannah at the Peachtree Battle location of this fabulous Atlanta-only maternity boutique chain that she and her family own and operate.

Hannah!

Hannah is fabulous, and from what I hear, totally the girl you want in your corner as you’re sporting the bump! Click here to view the website.

So, if you’re expecting, I think you can expect to have a great time at the Bump it Up event on March 30th!

Oh, baby!

Hope to see all you haute mamas there!

Did you know that yesterday was dear ol’ Dr. Seuss’s birthday? Well, it was.

Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on 03/02/04!

Throughout my whole life, I have ALWAYS been a big Dr. Seuss fan, I’m sure we all were at one point or another, right?  I mean, whose childhood didn’t include The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, or Green Eggs and Ham?

Usual Suspect.

Sidebar: remember when Season 5 Top Chef contender Carla made Green Eggs and Ham during a quickfire challenge?

Don’t you think she kinda looks a little like a resident of Whoville?
:

Coincidence? I think not...

Hootie-hoo, Carla! (I love you.)

I digress.

As I was saying, somehow Dr. Seuss always finds his way into my life at every stage. Some of my earliest memories are of my superawesome dad making up tunes to the silly songs in The Cat in the Hat Songbook…

Plinker Plunker!

…and as a suddenly environmentally-conscious 5th grader, I wrote what I considered to be a very moving paper on The Lorax.  Sometimes, riiiiight around wine-time, DK will dig it up to embarrass the heck out of me.

"I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues!"

The Good Doctor Seuss even followed me to college when DK gave me a copy of Oh, The Places You’ll Go as I settled into my dorm room at the University of Texas.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose."

Oh, and let’s not forget about Seussical the Musical (!!!) which opened on Broadway in 2000!  (…just to be sure that eeeeeeeevery last one of my tender little heartstrings were played upon…)

"Just tell yourself, duckie, you're really quite lucky!"

Then, when I moved to NYC myself, I met a wonderful guy named Andrew who educated me on the lost art of Dr. Seuss:

From www.drseussart.com: “Dr. Seuss single-handedly forged a new genre of art that falls somewhere between the Surrealist Movement of the early 20th Century and the inspired nonsense of a precocious child’s classroom doodles.”

Andrew had a truly mesmerizing (not to mention enormous) landscape painting in his apartment
and I came to learn that Seuss not only worked in illustrations and paint, but also bronze sculpture and “unorthodox taxidermy”

Even now, as a full-fledged adult (scary.), I often find myself considering the wise words of Dr. SeussCheck it:

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you-er than you.”

“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”

“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

And finally, my favorite (my sister’s favorite too):

“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

Bringing it all full-circle for me, next Saturday my very, very dear friends Jess and Adam will be celebrating the first birthday of THE MOST ADORABLE CHILDREN EVER, otherwise known as their kids, my pseudo niece and nephew, Eli and Alexa, with a Seuss-themed birthday party…where the twin guests of honor will appear as Thing 1 and Thing 2!

Precious!

But if you’d like to have your OWN Seuss celebration, you’re in luckOn SUNDAY, MARCH 21st the Breman Jewish Heritage & Holocaust Museum, will be hosting a “Seussian” Birthday Party in conjunction with their fascinating exhibition, “Dr. Seuss Goes to War…and More!”, a collection of Ted Grisel’s WWII political cartoons.

showing now through 08/31/10

So, HAPPY 106th BIRTHDAY, Dr. Seuss… from the Q+DD!

oh, and happy 1st birthday, A + E! Aunt LK loves you!

Oh, the places you'll go!

xx, L
