Impressed?  My colleagues were…  None of them even came close.

I couldn’t eat until about 2:30 p.m. today because I was so incredibly stuffed, but it was worth each. and. every. delicious bite.  It was my second time having it, and now I am even more convinced that it really is the very best burger in AtlantaYou can quote me…and The Blissful Glutton.

Soooooo, Lindsay has a new favorite restaurant.

It’s called The Iberian Pig, and you can find it hidden in downtown Decatur.

also, you can find it here in this picture. you're welcome.

Although it took Slick + me an extra 30 minutes more than everyone else to find it for Eat Squad last week, it was absolutely worth the hunt.  (Seriously, though, it takes a committed foodie to find this place.  I kinda felt like I was on The Amazing Race…)

As soon as we found it + met our friends, I was ready for a drink.  Much to my complete surprise + great excitement, they feature the Aviation on the menuI mean, it was just like they KNEW me.

well hello, gorgeous

The menu at The Iberian Pig is pretty freaking phenomenal.  The tapas list was extensive + creative enough to fully grab the table’s attention, so we decided to share a bunch of those among the six of us.  Here’s what we ate:

charcuterie + quesos

patatas al valdeon

salmon ceviche (special)

salchicha 3-ways

the ladies...

...our studly gentlemen

bbq octopus w/ patatas

first order of pork cheek tacos...

...second order of pork cheek tacos

jonah crab croquetas

B.W.D. (bacon wrapped dates)

cabrita carbonara w/ slow roasted goat

tocino con manzana

calamares

NOT PICTURED (but incredibly delicious):  ALBONDIGAS – wild boar sausage meatballs stuffed w/ piquillo peppers, Macedonian dates + roasted tomatoes.  Finished w/ pimenton creme and oyster mushrooms.

Every small plate we ordered was unbelievably good.  And, we went to town!

so insanely full - could barely stand up to take this, but nice lookin' group, eh?

This was the best meal I’ve had in a long time.  The Iberian Pig gets points for (1) really friendly + knowledgeable staff, (2) an incredibly creative + beyond delicious menu – there’s so much more that I’m dying to try, (3) offering the Aviation martini + bacon-infused bourbon (which was v. tasty) at the bar + in the dining room, and (4) for its kind-of-hidden-and-hard-for-Lindsay-and-Slick-to-find Decatur location.

Once we finally found it, though, the giant hunt sorta made us feel like it was OUR restaurant.  Which, in fact, it is now.   :)

Dude, these are DELICIOUS.

I really think they taste even better than Quaker’s chewy granola bars. And, you can quote me.  No really, you can.

Here’s the Q+DD on Fiber One bars’ nutritional facts:

Serving size: 1 bar
Calories: 140 g
Fat: 4 g
Carbs: 29 g  (not fantastic, but i’ve seen worse…)
Protein: 2 g
Dietary Fiber: 9 g  (35% of your daily value!)

I go through a box a week, and pick them up whenever I see them. They are e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.- Kroger, Publix, CVS, gas stations…

for you, Ams.

Try ‘em, you’ll see.

I feel confident in saying that Pirate’s Booty is the single greatest snack ever invented.  It’s like a healthy alternative to Cheetos (all-natural, baked, only 130 calories per serving + trans-fat and gluten free) - and the small bags are a mere three Weight Watchers points…if you are into that sort of thing.

I don’t know about you, but I’m hooked!

I love the Aged White Cheddar flavor.  The Veggie will also do the trick, although it’s not my preference.  However, I spotted these fun new flavors of PB @ Whole Foods yesterday!  Check ‘em out:

BERMUDA ONION (modern day Funyuns?)

BARBEQUE

SEA SALT + VINEGAR

CARAMEL

I can’t wait to try them all!

Grab a bag @ your local Whole Foods today or order them online @ www.piratesbooty.com.

“ARRRRRRRRRRRRR!  It’s a pirate’s life for me!”  :)

I’m a martini drinker.

me + martini

But, I have three critical martini-related rules.

(Please take note if you plan on ever ordering me a drink..)

Rule #1:  Under no circumstance do I want olives anywhere in or around my drink.  Ick!  HATE olives.  It’s a shame, too, because olives adore me…

Rule #2:  I want to be able to taste the vodka in my martini.  I am an adult – I am not 19 years old and I don’t want to be consuming mostly liqueur.  Thank you very much!  (A few too many nights at Carlos + Charlies in Puerto Vallarta put me off of sweet drinks fo’ life…)

Rule #3:  If I am drinking a martini, I’m going to be seated.  The martini glass is an incredibly poorly designed alcohol vehicle.  Further, I wear heels when I go out – but I am not great in them.  I’m telling you, I know my limitations, you do not want to be anywhere near me when I have a martini glass in my hand and I’m standing up.  I spill them when I’m sitting down!  So please bring the drink to me at a table and we won’t have to worry about our clothes making an immediate dry cleaning trip in the morning.  :)

Moving on…

I love Holeman + Finch.  (This all ties together, I promise.)  I just love it.  The food is excellent, the scene is superb and I really like the staff.  They are hipster w/o the grease + cut off jean shorts.  And, they are super friendly and attentive.  The high boys in the bar are my favorite location at Holeman to plop down + have a few drinks and small plates.

holeman

So, I’m there on Friday w/ EZ, Ms. Meri + Loren (not Lauren) and we’re ordering our second round of drinks when our server informs me that my go-to-Gimlet is kind of a boring order.  I quickly assess him and realize that (1) he is wearing skinny jeans (funny + appropriate hipster-waiter attire, which I applaud) and that (2) I’m fairly certain he looks like he knows what he is talking about, so instead of taking offense – I ask for his expert advice.  I made sure he was clear re. my three martini-related rules and he said he’d run with it.  A few minutes later as we were all digging into the Holeman 10:00 p.m. burger that we’d patiently been waiting for since 8:00 p.m., our server came back to the table with my drink.  BIG problem.  He tells me there’s gin in it.  Gin??  I don’t drink GIN.  I drink VODKA!  Needless to say, I’m incredibly skeptical…

However, all it took was one magical sip to win me over.  I like gin!  Who would have thought?!

certainly not us...

I mean it when I say that this was the best drink I’ve had in my life.  It was like flying.  Like a day at the beach.  Like winning a new car on The Price is Right!!

"one dollar, bob!"

The drink was an AVIATIONSayonara, Gimlet, you’ve officially been replaced…

behold its majesty

My old partner in crime, Mindy, is in town and last night we cooked dinner for her family, and then scooted over to Ormsby’s.  We were there for one drink + a meet up w/ the famous FB, when I heard the Aviation summoning me from Holeman.  So, at 11:00 p.m. on a Monday night we headed to Holeman for a late night burger + a few Aviations.  I’m addicted.

It really is the most amazing drink.  You don’t taste the gin too much, it’s not too sweet at all and it’s surprisingly refreshing.   (“it’s magically delicious!”)

mindy + me + martini = perfection. (math is fun!)

You have to try an Aviation immediately.  Order it @ Holeman tonight.  Seriously!  Or, learn how to make it yourself + impress your friends:

Ingredients:

2 oz of Gin
1/4 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Dash of Creme de Violette (optional)
Flamed Lemon Peel for Garnish (optional)

Directions:

Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled w/ ice
Shake shake shake…
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
Garnish
Sip + Enjoy! :)

Slick bought home the most amazing kitchen toy the other day – a slow cooker!  I honestly think it’s the greatest invention in the entire world…well…maybe second to hair straighteners.  Whatever – it’s really high up there!

slick's crock pot

Anyway, he cooked dinner for me the other night and it was delicious – pretty easy to make too.  He made a ton of pulled pork – literally a ton – so much, in fact, that we are still eating away at it almost four days later.  He’s been a total whiz in the kitchen lately!

what's cookin' good lookin'?

I felt inspired by the crock pot + Slick’s newfound interest in cooking, so I went online to look up some other easy recipes of things we could slowly cook over the eight(+) hours we’re at work and I found these:

1- Chicken + Dumplings: http://bit.ly/bsVh5U
2- Beef Bourguignon: http://bit.ly/YIsW0  (Harness your inner Julia Child!)
3- Creme Brulee: http://bit.ly/9BAdgA
4- BBQ Pulled Pork: http://bit.ly/cQ5Nw2  (Similar to what Slick made…)
5- Spinach + Cheese Dip: http://bit.ly/bLpiov

I’m convinced that a crock pot is God’s gift to the working woman (or man, obv.) – you get what I’m saying.  I love that there is a timer on it, too, so that if you are gone for longer than eight hours, it just turns itself off.  Brilliant.  I kind of want to slow cook everything now…

You can even make bread in a slow cooker: http://bit.ly/bvz1Dc  Amazing!  Who would have thunk it?!

AND – Wait for it…Wait for it…  Yes – got it!!  :)

Crock Pot Pizza (Pasta): http://bit.ly/dw0zOl = heaven!  I just love carbs (sigh)…

yes please!

God Bless the Crock Pot!  Mmmmmmmmmm!

When it comes to pizza, I’m really not kidding around.

this is my serious face

I’ve said it many times before, but I’ll say it again:  For the past five years, Shorty’s has been my favorite pizza place in Atlanta.  Nothing could hold a candle to it.  I’d happily eat there two – maybe three – (don’t judge me) times a week.  Happily.

Well, on the Fourth of July this year, I was sipping some Firefly and catching some rays beside the Post Chastain (Acapulco) pool with friends when dinner was mentioned.  I suggested Shorty’s, because “it is the best pizza in town.”  A friend’s fiance quickly chimed in that he considers himself to be a distinguished pizza connoisseur and that Vintage Pizzeria is, in fact, the best pizza in town.  Riiiiiiight.

I wasn’t up for an argument in my tipsy + sunburned + America-loving state, but I doubted that he was anywhere remotely close to correct.  His bold statement did, however, spark my interest…

It’s taken us a while, but on Sunday, Slick + some friends and I finally tried Vintage Pizzeria.  (Afterwards, I made everyone see The Wolfman.  I’m still really sorry, guys…)

Vintage Pizzeria

Here’s what I liked about Vintage:  I thought the pizzeria’s random location nearby the Chamblee MARTA station right off from Peachtree Industrial’s sprawling car dealerships was kind of cool.  I honestly didn’t know there was anything interesting in that area that would appeal to a demographic aside from sleazy car salesmen.  Vintage Pizzeria sits directly across the street from railroad tracks and an adorable little dessert trailer called the Frosty Caboose that serves ice cream and a few other sweet treats.

At Vintage, we ordered Carmen’s Own + the Hawaiian pizza* (my favorite) + some wine/ beer.  They pour well at Vintage – just FYI.  :)

Vintage Pizzeria

Vintage Pizzeria

*Note: Why is it that photos of pizza always look like the “what to watch out for” mole pictures at a dermatologists office?  Always – ick.

I have to say that I wasn’t incredibly impressed with Vintage’s decor or atmosphere, but the pizza was above average.  Definitely not the best in town, but possibly a nice alternative to Shorty’s.  I’ll give it that – although, I never thought I needed one.  That is…until I went to Antico Pizza Napoletana with close friends in from New York yesterday.  (I’m so sorry, Shorty’s…)

Antico Pizza Napoletana

Antico is, hands down, the best pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life.  (How’s that for a stand alone statement?!)

I’ve eaten pizza in Italy, New York, Chicago – everywhere that I would think is important, and frankly, Antico is it for me.  I am well-aware that I talk up a lot of restaurants on the blog, but Antico is different.  You have to try it immediately.  (No exclamation point is needed.  This is simply a statement of fact.)  For those who don’t live in Atlanta, come into town and visit me and I’ll take you.  Deal?  Done.

Antico is located in a nondescript space off of Hemphill and 14th, sandwiched between Georgia Tech’s campus and Atlantic Station.  When I walked in, I was greeted by an Italian employee and directed to the hanging menu above the register.  My friends and I decided to share a Margarita pizza with pepperoni*.  We ordered, grabbed some sodas and then seated ourselves at a communal table in the kitchen.  At first, I thought it might be strange to have overflow seating in the restaurant’s kitchen, but I LOVED it!  We got to watch the Antico employees (mostly Italians) kneading the dough, making the pizzas and throwing them into the brick ovens  – all while loud music was bumping throughout the kitchen’s speakers.

Ovens @ Antico

Brick Ovens @ Antico

Our pizza was delivered to us on a cookie sheet and IT. WAS. AMAZING!  Truly amazing!

Margarita Pizza @ Antico

The sauce and dough were particularly tasty, while at the same time not overpowering or too filling.  The cheese tasted incredibly fresh and the pepperoni was thinly sliced and crispy.  You just don’t get more authentic than this!  The only problem, though, was that we completely devoured it within minutes.  We immediately regretted not ordering more.

*Note: A number of people were eating the Bianca pizza (w/ ricotta + buffalo mozzarella) and it looked awesome.

Antico is open Monday – Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – Until Out of Dough.  How cute is that??

I love Antico’s pizza!  I really do.  Shorty’s, sadly, is a thing of the past for me.  (Farewell, old friend.)  As far as I’m concerned, there is only one place worthy of eating pizza at in Atlanta now – and that is Antico Pizza Napoletana.  I’ll see you there very soon.

I am NOT exaggerating when I say that these (yes, these) have changed my life:

Thanks to my bestie’s Canadian sister-in-law who is (1) amazing (2) has been using Jamieson probiotics for years and (3) got me hooked when she sent me a totally-not-sketchy international package containing two packs of probiotics, I am pleased to report that I’ve had a happy tummy for four months straight!  Here’s the Q+DD on probiotics and why you should get them from Canada instead of your local Whole Foods:

Probiotics aid with digestion and regularity.  They reduce bloating and other gastrointestinal symptoms.  Probiotics have more health benefits than yogurt with only a fraction of the calories (a mere six calories per stick).  Each stick provides a minimum of one billion active cells (better to not think about this for too long) to support healthy intestinal balance and promote immunity.

Probiotics can come in many forms, but the Jamieson brand from Canada - that I love so much - does not require refrigeration or water.  They are all natural and the Jamieson stick brand comes in a tasty red plum flavor.  Seriously, it takes like candy.  PLUS, the box has French on it – so you feel super fancy when it arrives in the mail.  (It’s the little things, right?!  Right!)

I order mine from www.well.ca.  If you go in with a few other people, you can order in bulk and reduce shipping cost.

I wish you all happy tummys!

xx, L
