Put on your party hats, people, for Party at Ponce on Saturday, October 1!

The finest chefs in Atlanta are preparing food for you to sample. The line-up currently includes:

Tours of the old Sears building will be provided during the party on a first-come first-serve basis.

Ponce City Market, a two million square-foot structure, is an adaptive reuse development that when revitalized will house a mix of retail, dining, office + residential space.  A landmark structure at the crossroads of Midtown, Poncey Highland, Old Fourth Ward + Virginia Highland, situated along the Atlanta Beltline transit corridor, Ponce City Market is perfectly positioned to become a hub among its neighboring communities, and a vibrant reflection of the diversity that makes each of those neighborhoods authentic and distinct.  It is a development borne of integrity, one that is destined to emerge as Atlanta’s next great urban experience.

This all sounds amazing, but for me The Indigo Girls performing takes the CAKE!

Just like I need another hole in my head, Atlanta needs another place to get frozen yogurt…

They are EVERYWHERE I turn, and yeah yogurt is great and all, but to me the market seems a bit saturated, no?  I’m for local businesses, too, but most of the yogurt shops are franchises and I have to admit – I’m getting bored.

So, the other day instead of getting yogurt, I got a smoothie.  Shook things up a bit.  Really, I’m just crazy like that.  I was in Ansley Mall + was flagged down by a ”now open” sign for a smoothie shop nearby L.A. Fitness, Planet Living, and I stopped in.

Surprise, surprise…they serve yogurt, too.  Creative.

I liked this place, though.  The staff was friendly and I felt like I had more options than at other smoothie stores.  I selected a strawberry + banana smoothie with peanut butter that I was promised would taste “JUST like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.”  It did not.  It tasted like a strawberry + banana smoothie with peanut butter, but I liked it fine and drank it probably faster than I should’ve.

I asked the friendly gentleman behind the register to tell me a bit more about the store, and he walked me right over to their yogurt section.  Shocking.

They had a few good flavors, although not nearly as extensive as a full yogurt shop.  The employee told me that Planet Living’s yogurt is especially healthy for some reason that I can’t remember + then he Vanna White-d their all natural toppings.  Ooh la la!

I am being rough.  He was very swell + it’s nice that Planet Living is so earth-friendly.

They also offer a variety of teas + juices in addition to their smoothies + yogurts, which I have to admit makes me warm up to PL even more – no pressure to only get yogurt.  The smoothie I tried was decent, too.  Check it out if you are in the area.

The Q+DD welcomes you, Planet Living, and wishes you well in Ansley.  Keep up the good work with the Earth.

After a long wedding weekend in New Jersey (FYI: did not get to meet Snooki as she went and got herself arrested the evening I arrived…), I’m pretty sure that the 90% of my body that is supposed to be made up of H20 is now almost entirely Belvedere vodka.

Needless to say, I’m dehydrated.

As I was surfing through the ol’ Book’o'Face yesterday to catch up on what I missed over the weekend, I happened to notice that the lovely ladies @ Caren West PR (just adore!) were drinking + chatting about something of great interest to me considering my current situation…

BOXED WATER

Ummmmm.  THIS is amazing!

Here’s the Q+DD on Boxed Water + why YOU should drink it:

Part sustainable water company, part art project, part philanthropic project, and completely curious.  Boxed Water Is Better, is a boxed water company.  Started with the simple idea of creating a new bottled water brand that is kinder to the environment and gives back a bit - the developers at BWIB found that it shouldn’t be bottled at all, but instead, boxed.  So they looked into the past for inspiration in the century old beverage container and decided to keep things simple, sustainable and beautiful.  About 76% of the Boxed Water container is made from a renewable resource, trees, that when harvested in a responsible, managed and ethical way serve as an amazing renewable resource that benefits the environment even as it’s renewed.  BWIB ships their boxes flat to their filler which is significantly more efficient compared to shipping empty plastic or glass bottles to be filled.  The flat, unfilled boxes they can fit on 2 pallets, or roughly 5% of a truckload, would require about 5 truckloads for empty plastic or glass bottles.  Their cartons can also be broken down to their original flat state, and are recyclable in some areas.  The Carton Council, www.recyclecartons.com, is continuously adding new carton recycling facilities throughout the country.  BWIB is also giving 20% of their profits back to the resources the product is composed of – water and trees.  Not only does it simply make sense, but they really enjoy supporting water and forestation organizations as part of their company ethos and way of thinking to give back and participate.  All that + an overarching focus on simple and beautiful design that compliments their brand, as well as the spaces it’s sold and consumed: Boxed Water Is Better.

Pretty, cool, right?!

Listen, in DK+DK’s house, when you request a vodka + soda, you are readily met with the question, “What’s the soda for?” We are a vodka/rocks family. Period. We all have our preferences: Belvedere for DK (mom), Stoli for DK (dad), Goose for Katie (Brian drinks Scotch. It’s ok, he’s new-ish. I still love him), and Ketel for me, usually.

But when I met Seth for a little post-show cocktail last night at Holeman, he suggested I try Square One organic vodka, so I did. (As far as I’m concerned, a suggestion from Seth may as well be a commandment. Dude has never, ever steered me wrong. Fact.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have found a winner!
squareoneIt was deliiiiiiicious.

Here’s the Q+DD: Square One organic vodka is made right here in the United States (based in Northern California, made from scratch in a small family distillery in Idaho) with spring water from the Teton mountains and organically certified North Dakota and Montana-grown rye. The ingredients are so super-pure that the vodka only has to be distilled once, so you get the freshest, cleanest-tasting, yummiest vodka in your little cocktail glass.

BONUS: they are a woman-owned, environmentally-friendly company. You know how I love that kind of thing

Read what founder Allison Evanow has to say about the packaging:

“The packaging had to reflect Square One’s philosophy of eco-conscious sophistication. That’s why the distinct square bottle is not frosted [a process that calls for some serious chemicals!] and the label is now printed on paper made from bamboo, bagasse and cotton, all sustainably grown and renewable fiber sources. And once the bottle is empty the label easily peels off so the bottle can enjoy a second life as a vase or other container.”

Fabulous!

You’ve gotta check out their website. It’s exquisite. They even have a page with amazing-looking cocktail recipes!

cucumberBottoms up! (for the environment, y’all!)
