It’s like the whole Internet is on sale.

I ran out during lunch for SUPER official business (i.e. to work on my sequin-hot mess of a New Years Eve outfit) + my mission is now accomplished!  Nothing I bought was on sale, unfortunately, but sequins are E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E.!  It’s definitely my favorite time of the year.

The High Museum of Art is launching a new exhibit: “Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters,” which is an amazing collection of over 100 works by 14 of the 20th century’s most iconic artists!

Yep – MoMA is coming to Atlanta, y’all!   This is the first major exhibition of the MoMA series and one of the largest concentrations of modern art masterpieces ever exhibited in the southeast.

Well, if that doesn’t call for a party, I don’t know what does.

Luckily…

THIS Thursday, October 6th, they are holding “The Picasso to Warhol Gala,” sponsored by Salvatore Ferragamo, to kick off the exhibition.  You can get your tix for a cool $2500/couple.

The gala will be followed by After POP (Party on the Piazza) at 9PM, for an evening of dancing under the stars with music provided by DJ Maseo of De la Soul(Just an after party kind of a person?  These tix are $75 a pop… pun intended.)

Hope to see y’all there!

This weekend is Dragon*Con!

Oh yes, the magical weekend where you could be sipping your coffee at Starbucks next to a Suntrust Banker in a three piece suit and a storm trooper.

"Uh, yes, we'll have 43 half-caf americanos, please."

(When I worked in Peachtree Center downtown, I used to awake like a child on Christmas morning the Friday of Dragon*Con.  Where else can you work on the 15th floor of a high rise office building and come down for lunch and see a pack of grown men dressed as the cast of Monty Python’s Holy Grail?  I’m pretty sure nowhere, that’s where.)

If you have NO idea what I’m talking about, here’s the Q+DD on D*C (and you’re welcome.): Dragon*Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe!

It’s also the reason for the WORLD’S COOLEST PARADE.

Be there or be…normal and boring September 3rd at 10:00AM Downtown.  (About a ½ mile long  – north on Peachtree Street from Woodruff Park at Auburn Avenue to the Hyatt Regency at Baker Street.  It continues onto Baker and ends on Courtland Street at the Marriott Marquis’ back entrance)

BONUS: It’s the 10th Anniversary!

Please note that Dragon*Con has changed their policy and will be blasting free-loaders with their light sabers.  No, not really.  But you’re not allowed to partake in any of the festivities (except the parade!!!!) unless you’re a paid participant.   So grab your Goblin’s Gold and get a badge, yo.

I always say I’m going to wrestle up a costume and head down, but never do it.  But you will more than likely find my gorgeous friend Erin down there in full regalia, turning heads like a Ginger Goddess.  Witness:

Erin, right, as Cover Girl from GI Joe (with a Superhero named Hawkgirl. Yep, Hawkgirl!)

Erin (center, obviously) as "Black Canary - "Holy Costume Party Batman!" as she calls it

Next year just may be my year…you know that Linds and I LOVE a good costume…

It’s been a crazy past few months and while life has been absolutely amazing – a lot of things have fallen by the wayside for me. (Particularly, blog post writing.)

Hiatus = over.

But before we return to our regularly scheduled LK programming, I have a BIG THANK YOU for everyone involved with, everyone who donated to, everyone who supported and everyone who attended Camp Dance. I couldn’t even begin to start naming names – but just know I appreciate you so much.

It was INCREDIBLE.  Absolutely incredible.

I loved everything.
The switch from the Zoo to the World of Coke was a game-changer – everything was so fun and peppy and whimsical and the WoC staff was INCREDIBLE.

The caterer was Bold American (I heart you, Mo!) who knocked our “camp” theme out of the PARK with  mini-fluffer nutter sammies, brie grilled cheeses, loaded baked potatoes, sliders and the clear winner of the night – CORN DOGS.

The corn dog is the new tater tot

and the desserts – oh the desserts!  I don’t even know where to start.  Witness:

I think everyone had an amazing time – I know I did because I was so busy dancing, I didn’t take a single picture. Thank goodness Greg was there!  Here are a few snaps:

G + me before the party started

Cutie Jona Sheer mixing a cocktail in "Taste It"

M.F.E.O.

Proof.

Party people in the house.

Kraselsky women (and Dr. Amy) on the dance floor

Handsome men everywhere!

"The Beverly" and vodka, anyone?

It’s looking like we raised in the neighborhood of $85K for Camp Twin Lakes and we couldn’t be more excited!

Thanks again to everyone!  I can’t WAIT for next year….

If I didn’t have plans to witness this gorgeous couple’s nuptials (can’t wait to see them tie the ol’ knot!) on Saturday, May 7…

www.becomingthecaseys.com

…you can bet that I’d be planning to go to Derby Day 2011!

The 29th Annual Derby Day will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA.

Derby Day has been an Atlanta tradition since 1983.  Each year, the event is held on the first Saturday in May to coincide with the Kentucky Derby.  Considered a highlight of Atlanta’s spring social calendar, Derby Day attracts more than 1,000 people every year, as well as hundreds of sponsors.

All proceeds generated from the event go to support the Shepherd Center’s Therapeutic Recreation Program.  Derby Day is organized by the Shepherd Center’s Junior Committee.

The Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers was the site for the 1996 Olympic Games equestrian events.  The Derby Day location within the horse park is a beautiful natural setting along the Yellow River in an open, grassy infield where driving events + polo matches are often held.

If you ask me, the best part of Derby Day – aside from the day drinking + horse watching, of course – is definitely the HATS.  Oh, the hats!

I. love. them.

Just think!  You could be Derby chic like Audrey, above, or Derby legend-wait for it-dary like the lady in red below.  The world is yours!

life is so happy in my big, big hat!

(Dressing up for a horse race is almost more exciting than putting together a Halloween costume!)  Just look at my friends next door:

Perfection.

And, the mint julepsDon’t mind if I do…

mint julep heaven.

Is there anything better than this?   I think not.

Here’s the Q+DD on Derby Day 2011:

Location: Georgia International Horse Park
Date: Saturday, May 7, 2011
Time: Gates open at 2:00 p.m. – close at 10:00 p.m.
Tickets: $60 in advance/ $70 at the gate.  Price includes entry, food, alcoholic + non-alcoholic beverages, music + optional bus transportation to and from the event.
(That’s a pretty amazing deal for $60!)

There will also be live + silent auctions, two live bands (daytime: Crash Davis/ nighttime: Sweetwater Junction), games + drawings and a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on two big screen TVs.

Buy your Derby Day 2011 tickets here: Mint Juleps + Enormous Hats…Life IS Grand!

I can’t wait to hear all about it!  :)

Camp Dance 2010: Fun Fact - I met this guy planning Camp Dance 2010 :)

Besides being just an amazing event, Camp Dance benefits Camp Twin Lakes, a fabulous camp for children facing serious illnesses and other physical, emotional and life challenges.   For more information on Camp Twin Lakes click here.

For the last 5 years Camp Dance was held at Zoo Atlanta…but we thought we’d shake it up a bit this year and we are introducing a REFRESHING new venue: The World of Coca-Cola!

Here’s the Q+DD on Camp Dance:

The Camp Twin Lakes Junior Board presents Camp Dance 2011!

Saturday – April 30th, 8pm-midnight
at the World of Coca-Cola

Remember when…
Prime real estate meant getting the top bunk?
The preferred transporation only had one horsepower?
or Tevas and Umbros were considered high fashion?

Well, saddle up your horse, dust off your dancing shoes, and head toward the mess hall, because it’s back…and it’s better than ever!

That’s right. We’ve decided to shake things up a bit with a “refreshing” new venue. But don’t worry…we won’t shake it too much!

Camp Dance at the World of Coca-Cola:
Immerse yourself in the amazing and interactive exhibits at the World of Coca-Cola including a 4D Theater, Pop Culture, Perfect Pauses, Milestones of Refreshment and Bottle Works all while dancing and listening to tunes from Bobby and the Aristocats!

Tapas and Treats:
Enjoy some complimentary spiked bug juice and some camp-themed heavy hors d’oeuvres such as miniature cheeseburgers, corndogs, grill cheeses, and loaded baked-potatoes. Then take part in the delectable dessert bar that will include moon-pies, cheesecake popsicles, rice krispy treats, cupcakes, and of course…s’mores!

Create your own concoctions in Taste It!
Choose one or more of the almost 70 flavors from around the world then head to the bar to complete your cocktail. Beer and wine are complimentary all night. Each admission ticket includes 2 free drink tickets for the cocktail bar. Additional drink tickets may be purchased with cash at the event.

Tickets are currently $55.
Price will increase to $65 at 5 o’clock April 1st and will be $75 at the door if event is not sold out.
