I finally saw The Buckhead Theatre on Saturday, and it is absolutely fantastic!

I could hardly believe how much nicer it was than the old Roxy, where I went to see G. Love approx. 4 1/2 years ago and I witnessed a hardcore drug deal go down + someone peeing in the corner of the venue.  True story.  What a dump!  The newly-renovated Buckhead Theatre, however, is a venue fit for an amazing party of almost any sort, a fun corporate/industry event or an awesome concert where people aren’t confused if the line for the bar is actually a line for the urinal…

So, on Saturday, we went to the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta Young Leadership Council’s Signature Event at the Theatre.  And, it was a blast!  :)

We had cocktails in the prefunction area for an hour or two, and then headed into the main theatre space for the event.  The stage was perfect for the DJ, and the set up was just superb.  I was really impressed with the seated lounge areas with plush couches + tables in the upper part of the space closer to the main doors.  And, the bathrooms were immaculate- absolutely without a hint of the old Rox.  The whole time we were there I was envisioning throwing an event for work in the space.  It’s THAT put together.

I have to admit that my heart truly belongs to the event space @ 200 Peachtree, but if it was booked I’d be calling up The Buckhead Theatre faster than you could say Rumpelstiltskin.  No seriously, that word has four syllables.

Info abt. Upcoming Shows @ The Buckhead Theatre: HERE!

I really, really heart you Buckhead Theatre!  Welcome.

Recap: Friday night was nothing short of spectacular. The humidity in the air only aided my enormous 80’s ‘do and when Sharkey and I stumbled upon this shirt whilst last-minute wardrobe shopping at Target……I knew it was going to be one for the books.

The tone was set early by the totally rad 80’s mix compiled by one Elizabeth Ceaser (of Phliz fame) which included every memorable song from the years 1979 to 1991. We enjoyed Blow Pops and Pop Rocks (ok no Pop Rocks, but that would have been awesome.  Where do you find them, anyway?) as we jammed out to Liz’s mix

(Photobomb: Lumpy)

Ted: 80's Cowboy.

Strike a pose there's nothing to it: Vogue.

Ellen: So Strong! (PS I'd like to buy a vowel...)

If only we had any idea what was waiting for us at Sweetwater…

There were fanny packs, taffeta...

dance offs...

...complete with break dancing...

Amazing makeup

and lots of 80's love

Sidebar: I just don't know who I love more: Liz for putting this outfit together or Phil for wearing it...

Demon eyes courtesy of my iPhone

Miami Vice Joe

He mowed 200 yards to save my white suede outfit!

It was a GREAT night and my friends Jason and Lila, two of the organizers of this amazing party, told me they raised a HUGE chunk of change for the Elliott Galloway Scholarship Fundnice work!

Bonus: Our Electric Ladyland SAVE FERRIS coozies came in quite handy the next day as we recovered poolside, trust.

Electric Ladyland, THANKS for a great night! We can’t wait for next year!

Listen, I need to be real with you for a moment.

It is halfway through 2010 and even though it’s been a great year…if I am completely honest with you, I’ve just been feeling a little incomplete. Yes, I’ve had a nagging emptiness in my soul, a teeny tiny hole in my heart… and until recently, I just didn’t know why.  All I knew was that something was missing and I couldn’t put my finger on it…

UNTIL NOW.

Can you believe we have gone 7 months without an 80’s themed event?

I mean, I LIVE for the 80’s.

Q: Who has an 80’s themed Passover Seder? A: Lindsay and I do!

In anticipation of my first 80’s event this year, I’ll be participating an a fun-filled night of 80’s movie bliss at Phliz’s crib on Thursday.

Phil + Liz = Phliz. Duh.

Gotta love a couple who displays 100% Theme Commitment.  I pity the fool who doesn’t.

I can only hope for a photo as cool as this one:

They say that all good things must come to an end…

Sunday evening was the series finale of LOST, a show I’ve watched for six years.  It’s one of the longest relationships I’ve ever had – and today I’m in full blown mourning for the show.

Slick and I were in Ann Arbor until yesterday morning for a Sunday evening wedding – so we missed the finale in real time(If that isn’t friendship, I don’t know what is.)  All day yesterday, I avoided Facebook and Perez Hilton so that I wouldn’t find out even a morsel of what happened.  The USA Today I was reading in the Detroit terminal almost ruined it for me, but thankfully I dramatically tossed it as soon as I saw a picture of Jack and Hurley running through the island.  I was in agony all day, worried that someone would accidentally spill the beans.

Jen B had a big LOST finale party on Sunday night, but her husband – also an avid LOSTie – was at the wedding w/ us, so she had us over to watch the finale (second time for her) last night. Thank you, Jen!

Although many LOST bloggers disagree, I thought the two hour finale was really great!  It was incredibly confusing, but it finally answered most of my questions (not nearly all of them, though).

SPOILER ALERT!  Here’s the Q+DD on the LOST finale: http://snipurl.com/wreeq

Aaron Karo’s Ruminations re. LOST ending: http://www.ruminations.com/column/171

I can’t help but feel deflated today.  I’ve watched the show from the very first episode of the first season – longer than I’ve watched any other.  We had good times (seasons 1, 2, 6) and bad times (seaons 3, 4, 5) - but we made it throught it all.  As Jen put it, “it’s like Friends ending all over again…”  I think this is worse.

R.I.P. old friend.  From the bottom of my pop-culture-lovin’ heart, I deeply thank you for the past six years of quality entertainment.

As previously mentioned, I bought Groupons for Slick + I to go to Medieval Times, and then successfully strong-armed a few friends into join us.  We went to the Atlanta castle on Saturday evening and IT. WAS. AWESOME!!  :)

Here’s the Q+DD:

evidently Medieval Times is INSIDE of the mall - not quite as sexy as anticipated, but we rolled with it.

the boys supported the blue knight b/c blue is for boys...

...and since there was not a hot pink knight, the ladies opted for the yellow one.

we drank massive Medieval beers (then promptly shattered the glasses in the back of my car afterwards by accident or because we are tough. you decide.)

mr. b and slick were still able to rock their faux-hawks even with their Medieval crowns on. we creatively renamed the hairdo: crown-hawk. you're welcome, Vidal Sassoon.

lindsay ate with her hands...

...and so did lauren. (surprisingly, the food was kind of really good. quote me and i'll come after you.)

the show was pretty cool. jousting is intense.

so intense, in fact, slick got a little Medieval-y stressed out.

we were a pretty rowdy group - yelling at/ for the knights, drinking enormous beers and throwing our crowns around...

MAN DOWN!

our serf, ron, was pretty rad. he filled us in on all the juicy Medieval gossip.

we got to meet the king (we = total VIPs)...

...and finished off the night with a Medieval DANCE PARTY. that's right.

Medieval Times is a seriously fun date.  We used the Groupon, but still I think that it’s pretty economical for food and a show at only $49.95 per person (regular price).  Currently, they are running a special for $34.95, which is even better.  If you register online, you can get a free feast (they offer a vegetarian feast, too) + tournament for your birthday!

P.S. On Saturday, someone in the crowd was there for his bachelor party!  We all got a kick out of that…

…we are going to MEDIEVAL TIMES!

OMG OMG OMG

A few months ago, the Atlanta Groupon Gods smiled upon me and sent out an awesome deal for MEDIEVAL TIMES.

thank you

I yelled from my computer “SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!,” proceeded to shut my office door and then e-mailed all of my Atlanta nearest and dearest to plea for them to buy into the Groupon with me.  Shortly thereafter, the deal was on (hooray!) and I had successfully rallied seven excellent friends to accompany me for a MT dinner and tournament!  (The Groupon get us a “royalty upgrade,” too!  I mean…that’s just how we roll.)

I went once in high school, but I’ve wanted to go back ever since this guy dressed up in full MT knight regalia in the movie, Garden State…

"you're just a fast food knight..."

Well anyway, the time is FINALLY upon us!  Saturday is MEDIEVAL TIMES day!  (I’m incapable of writing “MEDIEVAL TIMES” in lower case due to my extreme excitement overload.)

I’m actually looking forward to making the long trek OTP to see this oasis:

home sweet home?

I fully intend on wearing one of THESE all night:

yes!

I can’t wait to see THIS:

fighting for my honor...

And meet THEM:

hello!

And best of all, eat with my hands!!*

Well, I tried, this picture is of Ethiopian food - couldn't find a better one. Don't fret, though, I'll take nine million pictures of us eating with our hands on Saturday! Promise.

*Side note: When I was a kid and my dad would catch me eating with my hands at the dinner table, he’d always ask me “What are you – a viking?!”  Well guess what, Dad, obviously I am:

exhibit A

exhibit B

I’m really looking forward to getting all medieval and such…but really, the greatest part is that I can be totally laid back during the tournament because no matter which knight wins or loses – I get to leave with my Prince Charming Slick…

that's right

I hope you are all ready for a full report on Monday.  (Is it Saturday yet?!)

My fabulous (and GORGEOUS and ADORABLE) friend Melissa…

has invited me as her +1 on her fabulous company’s fabulous party bus to STEEPLECHASE this weekend!

I just couldn’t be more excited. Since she extended the invitation, I have spent roughly a bazillion hours pouring over the Atlanta Steeplechase website and have found out a LOT of interesting things.  I encourage you to check if out for yourself, but I thought I would share that in addition to horse racing, there is also terrier racing (should I bring Olive?  She’s pretty speedy…) and the 46-year-old event benefits both the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine as well as the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Georgia. For more information, click here.

I can’t tell if I am more excited about hanging out with Melissa

Already a horse natural, obvi

The Mint Juleps (remember when I learned how to make them? Click here for the recipe and more info)

Or the HATS.

I mean, obviously, it’s the hats.  I can’t help myself - this falls squarely into the “costume” category so I am, of course, completely and totally obsessed with what hat to wear.  I just have no idea!   The closest I have EVER come to a horse race before now was when I was in My Fair Lady in high school.

"C’mon, Dover! Move yer bloomin’ arse!"

Additionally, I CERTAINLY don’t want to let Melissa down!  She is, after all, a woman who takes commitment to proper attire VERY seriously.  Please witness the following picture taken at a very competitive Whiffleball game in which she participated:

Not. Messing. Around.

Perhaps first order of business should be to decide on my hat personality and go from there? So may options!

Am I a GLAM hat person?
A PRETTY hat person?

A FUNKY hat person?
A WHIMSICAL hat person?
An OVER-THE-TOP hat person?

Or a TOTALLY WEIRD, WHAT-IS-SHE-WEARING, COMPLETELY ECCENTRIC hat person?
I just don’t know, and Steeplechase is SATURDAY!

Any ideas???

xx, L

P.S. See you at the races!  Thanks again, Meliss!

There was a LOT of mud.

The REAL St. Patty’s Day, however, is on Wednesday!  Celebrate @ Fado’s Irish Pub in Buckhead w/ Q 100 + The Bert Show

I took a day off from work for St. Pat’s last year and went with the little brother to celebrate @ Fado’s.  We had a blast!  And, I can safely say that it’s the only place to be on Wednesday.

If you are a frequent Q+DD reader, you’ll know that I love holidays – and pretty much any reason to celebrate.  I even like not-so-sexy holidays.  For instance, Passover got morphed last year into Lindsay + Lauren’s B.P.E. (Best Passover Ever).  It was 80’s-themed and all…

The B.P.E.

B.P.E.

the charoset was jussssst right...

the charoset was jussssst right

Valentine’s Day (candy + roses) definitely falls into my top five favorite holidays list, alongside St. Patty’s Day (green beer + socially-acceptable pinching), Halloween (costumes + candy…again), Thanksgiving (turduckens + football) and New Year’s Eve (champagne + overpriced parties).

Happy V-Day!

Happy V-Day!

Sadly, I do encounter quite a few people who are not that “into” V-Day.  Some people just don’t have the spirit.  I hear them say, “why should I be forced to tell my (insert: girlfriend/ fiance/ partner/ wife) that I love them more on this day than any other - yadda yadda yadda?”  To which I simply respond, “because Hallmark tells you to!  Hello!”  Call me brainwashed – whatever – but I’m totally buying what Hallmark is selling.  I love everything about this holiday!  Chalky conversation hearts, under-clothed babies with bows + arrows, oversized V-day cards, pristine red+ pink roses…I love it all.

Which brings me to my point: no matter if you’re a V-day lover or hater, here are a few ideas for the weekend if you have not already made plans:

A Love Supreme:  Nothing says, “I love you,” like sushi, well, that’s our philosophy at least.  Head to Genki Noodles and Sushiin Buckhead or The Prado for a low-key, romantic Valentine’s Day dinner featuring a special “Cupid Roll” and “Love You Long Time” flirty cocktail.  Detailed info below. (http://www.genkiatl.com/)

Valentine’s Day is for Suckas:  Boycott this Hallmark holiday and reclaim romance for the real world at P’cheen International Bistro & Pub!  Saturday, February 13 infuse a little humor into your night…sip on “Cupid Got Shot(s)” while you bust out your best Molly Ringwald moves during the teary eyed dance party courtesy of DJ Feri.  Since the kitchen is open until 1:00 a.m., you might even find a date that you can spoon-feed the “Broken Heart” dinner specials to. (http://www.pcheen.com/)

Tainted Love:  Give love a chance during Gold Room’s retro throwback “Tainted Love” party on Saturday, February 13th.  Enjoy a night of dancing as DJ Andre Perry spins favorites from the 70s, 80s and 90s.  Try the “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue” and “Chocolate Covered Raspberries” specialty cocktails.  Single guys and gals can try to get lucky in love by picking up a red wrist band at the front door as their official “single signal” for the night.  (http://www.goldroomatl.com/)

Shop To Your Heart’s Content:  If you’re still searching for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift, Limon Verde offers beautiful hand-made unique and affordable gifts for that special someone.  To sweeten the deal, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Red Cross.  And, the Shops Around Lenox have a bundle of sweet deals through Valentine’s Day. (http://www.limonverde.com/)

Valentine’s Day Supper Club:  Sun In My Bellyis hosting special Valentine’s Day dinners Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m.  Both evenings will have one seating featuring a four-course meal created by executive chef Allison Lueker, complimentary specialty cocktails and live music by Nicole Chillemi.  In addition, each party will receive a signature floral bouquet from Foxgloves + Ivy Floral Design Studio to take home. $50.00 per person. (http://www.suninmybelly.com/)

A few other V-Day ideas can be found right there:  HERE.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, EVERYONE!  And, stay warm – this is going to be a snowy one in Atlanta!  :)

Snuggie Pub Crawls. They’re everywhere these days.
snuggiepubcrawl2Sorry, Joanna and Ash, apparently we did NOT come up with that idea and if we did, we certainly didn’t execute quickly enough because you can barely walk down the street these days without hitting a wall of Snuggie-clad bar-hoppers.
snuggiepubcrawlgroupsnuggiepubcrawl1snuggiepubcrawlcheerNow, I guess if you’re going to wear a blanket to a bar, it definitely makes sense to wear one with sleeves.  You just can’t argue with that logic. I mean, how else could you shoot pool?
CIMG1359Give a high five?
snuggiehighfiveEven hold your cocktail?!
snuggiecocktailYou couldn’t, my friends.  You couldn’t.

Plus, if you order now, your Snuggie will come with a book light that can also double as a mini flashlight…which could come in handy in dimly lit pubs! CIMG1357I actually can’t believe bar crawling wasn’t Snuggie’s original purpose. Yep, Snuggie pub crawls are all the rage and last night?  I jumped right on that bandwagon.

I couldn’t just go with the standard edition blue.  Luckily, as you know, Snuggie is really branching out. Check out the latest from Milan:
snuggierunway I imagined myself a Project Runway contestant while fashioning my Snuggie dress… please witness my Snuggie couture:

That. Just. Happened.

That. Just. Happened.

In this chilly February weather, I was snug as a bug in a rug in my Snuggie.  I loved it.  Everyone at Twain’s loved it. In fact, I may work it in as a regular part of my wardrobe.   Otherwise, I might wonder: snuggietshirtHave a Snug-tastic day, everyone!
