ATTENTION all Auburn fans: A friend of our dear friend, M. Reynolds, started an awesome company that you need to know about – Toomers Rolls!

But first, I need to give everyone else a little Auburn 411…

The intersection of Magnolia Avenue + College Street in Auburn, which marks the transition from downtown Auburn to the university campus, is known as Toomer’s Corner.  Hanging over the corner are two massive old-growth oak trees, and whenever there is cause for celebration in the Auburn community, the trees are festooned with toilet paper.  (Oooh, I like the word “festooned.”)  The TP rolling of oak trees started in the early 1990s after the power lines were moved under ground.  Traditionally only used as a way to celebrate football victories, in recent years it has become a way to celebrate anything good that happens concerning Auburn.  (www.wikipedia.com)

toomer's corner

Here’s the Q+DD on Toomers Rolls:

Toomer’s scarves were developed by an Auburn graduate and her Georgia Tech pal from business school.  They are made out of soft “scarf-like” material that will keep you wrapped in spirit while watching an Auburn game…home or away!

Wrapped around a replica of a cardboard toilet paper roll + featuring fine stitching mimicking toilet paper perforation seams, these scarves give a nod to Auburn University’s famous winning tradition while preserving the delicate Toomer’s Oaks!

LK + I are Texas fans, but since Texas is in a different conference we feel like we can jump on the Toomers Rolls bandwagon!

who's got school spirit??

We just love scarves (esp. scarves worn in summer), we totally support small businesses, we think toilet paper is v. necessary, and we’re on-board with anything M. Reynolds is about!  (P.S. She’s the adorbs model on the far left of the photo above.)

Get your Toomers Rolls here, War Eagles: GO AUBURN!  Follow Toomers Rolls on Facebook!

And, good luck this season!  :)

I just discovered Zumba.

And I’ll be honest – until a couple of months ago, I thought Zumba was perhaps less appropriate for this blog and better suited for a feature in say… a publication like this:

I was wrong.  Lucky for me, I had a small herd of girlfriends who persuaded me to attend a class at the brand spankin’ new LA Fitness in Town Brookhaven (which is conveniently located mere feet from my apartment door, so I had no excuse)

You guys.  It is a DANCE PARTY and full of adorable people. It’s less like this:

And more like this:

Here’s the Q+DD on Zumba: It’s a dance workout class that combines Latin-influenced music with pop songs that’s meant for all fitness levels.  You can burn 1000 calories in a single class!

My 7:00PM Monday class at Town B is definitely more Usher than “Oye Como Va”– and definitely more cheerleader than soccer mom – but I think at least partial credit goes to the instructor, Melissa.  I am pretty much obsessed with her.  I don’t even know where to begin – she’s so cute I want to put her in my pocket.  And she SMILES the whole time.  It’s love.

Last night I took Broadway Meredith with me and pretended we were in our own little show stopping production of a dance musical.   It is the MOST fun.  (Can’t WAIT to bring Linds with me in a few weeks!)

Cabaret, Shmabaret. It's ZUMBA, baby.

BONUS: If you attend Melissa’s class on Monday 10/31 – wear all black and come prepared to do a little THRILLER.  (!!!!!!!!!)

In doing a little Zumba research, I found out that this class has been around since 2001- so I don’t know what took me so long to find it but I hope it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

The bottom line: it’s a super intense cardio workout cleverly disguised as a party and I am ALL about it.

Obviously, I love the 7:00PM Monday class at LA Fitness Brookhaven, but check out your local LA Fitness, I think they all have a class or two on the schedule.

You can also find a class nationwide by clicking THIS link.

Or, apparently Zumba from home!  DVDs are available HERE.

I hope you Zumba with reckless abandon. As that old cliché goes, “Dance like no one is watching.”  Seriously.  It’s way more fun that way.

As you may or may not know, I moved to Brookhaven a couple of months ago and I’m pretty much obsessed with my new neighborhood.  It. Is. Love.

Reason #20958206 why I love Broohaven: the newly-invigorated Brookhaven Farmers’ Market (Saturdays from 9am – 1pm in the Haven parking lot: 1441 Dresden Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319)

Last Saturday got there a little late – so I’ll have to go get the full experience another time, but even though everyone was packing it up as we arrived… DK+DK managed to score gold:

Mushrooms on a Log: everything you need to grow your own shiitake mushrooms on a log brought to you by 2 Fun Guys.(Props for the awesome name, dudes.)

Yup.  Just a log.  Inoculated with a strain of shiitake mushrooms.  Ready for you to take home, care for, and harvest yourself.

Check out owners Todd Pittard and Howard Berk on their website HERE They’ll tell you how to care for them, even walk you through your harvest and give you suggestions on how to cook ‘em!  I couldn’t dig this idea any more.

Dad walked off very happy with his log o’ shrooms.

I’ll keep you posted on it’s progress!

We gradually spend more + more time in our work environment, which means that we often need to make work and rest fully-compatible within the same space.  Some cultures have assimilated this concept more naturally than others, but in general the workplace hasn’t adapted well to this new working-resting paradigm.

Until now.

meet the OSTRICH

The OSTRICH offers a micro-environment in which you can take a warm + comfortable power nap at ease.  It is neither a pillow nor a cushion nor a bed nor a garment, but rather a bit of each at the same time.  Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head + hands for a few minutes w/o needing to leave our desk.

More info on the OSTRICH here: Studio KG

Ummmmmm, obsessed…  I NEED this immediately.

Judy Jetson is a bit of an enigma to me.

I mean, besides chat on the phone, all the girl seemed to do was  shop… and yet she rocked the exact same midriff-bearing pink space suit every. single day.

The bigger mystery for me, however, is how she bleached her hair to ultimate platinum levels and never, ever seemed to have as much as one split end!

I’m not sure… but I’m pretty sure Judy Jetson’s haircare is available today…at Muse Salon in Alpharetta. (BTW – Muse is absolutely gorgeous and full of pretty people.  I like that in a salon.)

I went up to Muse and placed my tired tresses in the hands of salon co-owner Daniel and stylist Megan and I am here to tell you my hair did a 180.  I am talking noticeable, marked difference.

Enter Kérastase Chronologiste  and the Kérastase Diagnostic Camera.

First, Megan analyzed my hair and scalp with the super magnifying camera and it…was scary.   Breakage everywhere.  Witness:

My actual hair. Yikes.

Then they hooked it up to this bigger computer and I answered a few short questions and it was able to make recommendations on products and treatments based on both the health of my hair and my personal beauty priorities.

That’s when the magic began.  First of all, the Chronologiste treatment looks like a little dish of caviar:

Megan mixed all the ingredients into a paste a paste and massaged into my hair (which was heavenly!) After a few minutes under the heat lamps and a fabulous blowdry… my hair was healthy, bouncy, swingy perfection. More than that – my color looks brighter and my blowdry was quicker. Facts, both!  I totally recommend this treatment.

Bonus: they’re also doing thatFeatherlocks” thing up there.  Have you seen this?

The first person I saw with a feather was Greg’s brother’s incredibly stylish lady-friend Emma. Check it:

Since then, I have seen no less than a bazillion girls with all kinds of different colored feathers secured to their own hair with silicone beads.  Apparently, the feathers perform just like your own hair for 8 weeks!  “Bundles” go for $35/bundle and the average “Featherlock” is 2 bundles.

They are pretty discreet, but f I can figure out how to completely hide a hot pink feather M through F I am ALL ABOUT IT. Just saying.

Listen, go check out Muse.  They’re incredibly cutting edge, elegant and…high tech.

Just like my girl Judy.

Thanks to Ms. Joanna Duff + Buzzfeed, we have a new trend up for discussion on the Q+DD today…

THE SLARF

hey there, sad hipster.

Part scarf + part sleeve – the functionality of this fashion item is pretty lost on me; but I want one.  I know that.

kim k rocks a slarf

Although Kim K can make almost anything look good, the chick really knows how to pull off a slarfMan Repeller material?  Probably.  Worth the risk?  I’m thinking so.

can you dig it? i can dig it!

Bring ON the slarf!  :)

Late last year, OPI released a polish line in collaboration with Katy Perry.  The colors are exciting + bold, and look great under OPI’s Shatter polish which gives the nails a textured crackle effect.

Serena Williams’ OPI line looks awesome under Shatter, too.

And, here’s the effect:

It’s certainly not for everyone, but it’s a-okay by Fergie

..and of course, Mrs. Perry (Brand?).

LK + I swear by our nail salon, Lily’s Nails, on Piedmont + Monroe in the shopping center with RuSans + they’ve recently started using OPI’s Shatter.  Last week, when I was getting the OPI Axxium gel nails, Lily + another one of the technicians were trying it on themselves over various bold colors.  It looked really cool, I must admit, for the right time + place.  (Concert, Halloween, bachelorette party, etc…)

Here are some other crackle ideas:

What do y’all think??  It’s not for everyone, but whomever it IS for – I want to be friends with them…  :)

(Uh yes, you read that right…)

Knowing that I am a fan of the asinine + the outrageous, Captain Kurt + Smellis shot over e-mails this week informing me about two incredibly. inane. shoe trends.  Frankly, I’m appalled by both of them (for different reasons), but I do appreciate the creative thought behind their development.  Unfortunately, though, someone’s hamster fell off of the wheel…

(1) TEVA STILETTOS

It’s hard for me to believe that these even exist.  Made by Grey Ant + Teva, you can hike the runway in two colors: World’s Unite (black + white) and Natural (tan).  And, for the low-low price of $330, these construction work couture kicks can be YOURS!

(2) HEEL CONDOMS (www.theheelcondoms.com)

“Condom-like covers that let you play dress up with your shoes.  Fit any stiletto heel…”

I think the concept behind these is pretty cool, but I have a serious problem with the name.  SERIOUS.  In fact, it kills the whole trend for me.  Perez Hilton (CoCo Perez at least) is a fan, however.  Heel Condoms range from $20 – $30 each.

What, just WHAT, will we think of next?!  (I’m scared…)

Heads up, tree huggers.  This one’s for you…

Michael Kors’ message is loud + clear.  Large watches are in.  Every fashion-conscious girl + her mom + her grandma are wearing oversized watches these days.  I am guilty of loving this trend, too.  Every. single. one. of my watches are oversized.

Now, there’s a company who is taking this trend and turing it green.  WEWOOD makes watches out of wood + will plant a tree for every watch sold.  (Kind of like a watch version of TOMS shoes.)

Touchy-feely stuff that we kinda dig from the WEWOOD website:

WEWOOD emerged out of Italy as an emblem of eco-luxury and design, committed to the health of our planet.  It is the avant-garde approach to sophisticated sustainability.  WEWOOD lets us rediscover nature in its beauty, its simplicity and inspired design.  It reminds us of a tree’s powerful way of life; rooted, yet reaching.

Completely absent of artificial and toxic materials, the WEWOOD timepiece is as natural as your wrist.  It respects your skin as you respect nature by choosing it.  Your WEWOOD watch breathes the same air that you breathe and may awaken memories from another time and place. Your WEWOOD watch records your sensations and shares your experiences as the perfect natural mate, whose story also becomes yours to wear, smell + feel.

When you get your WEWOOD timepiece, you can feel confident you’re making a difference.  One timepiece plants one tree + together we help to ensure the health and survival of the natural world.

Here are a few of their watches for your viewing pleasure:

Or, try on before you buy @ Squash Blossom in Decatur, GA!

One Watch  – One Tree – One Planet  :)

“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”

P.S. Thanks for bringing this to my attention J. Chait!

Sooooooo, I’m kinda digging these double finger rings that I’m seeing all over now.

I’m certainly not talking about the Mr. T look, either…

I’m talking about more like the Tracy DiMarco from Jerseylicious look

(Close up on Tracy’s hand from an event she recently attended…)

I never thought that double finger rings could actually be cute or feminine, but just look @ these!

And these!

And also these!!  :)

I really think that they are kind of precious.  Apparently, Lauren Conrad rocks them, too:

She’s a bit annoying, but I definitely like her style + trust it way more than T. DiMarc’s from Jerseylicious – although credit where credit is due – Tracy is the reason I noticed these rings in the first place.

Anywhoo, I decided to start smallso I ventured OTP to Perimeter Mall this weekend to see if I could pick up a double finger ring @ my beloved Forever 21, and came home w/ THIS bad boy:

So, we’ll see how it goes.  I love the ring - but def. want to make sure that my fingers don’t feel like I’ve trapped them in a cage before I spend more than $8 on a fancier one.

P.S. Forever 21 had a really impressive selection of ringshttp://ow.ly/2RZk3

Just sayin’…  If you need some big bling or want to try out a new trend you aren’t so sure about yet (i.e. double finger rings) – Forever 21 is the place to hit!  Love, love, LOVE you, F21!  I do.

Without a doubt, brunch is my favorite meal of the day.  I really want it every day, but typically only get it on Saturdays or Sundays.  I mean, it’s brilliant.  Anything goes: pancakes, waffles, eggs, meats, mac & cheese, oatmeal, sandwiches, mimosas, bacon, fried chicken, bloody mary’s, migas – you name it – you can eat it during brunch!

Stac Shap + I are brunch champions.  Observe:

just look how happy we are!

While it’s far from being my favorite brunch spot in Atlanta, Goldberg’s Bagel Company + Deli is one of the most reliable brunches in town.  I always get the same thing there (two eggs over medium + fruit + pumpernickel bagel + light  plain cream cheese + coffee) and it’s always perfectly decent.

There’s usually a line to wait in for a table, but it doesn’t ever seem like it takes very long to be seated since I’m generally kept busy talking to at least half of the Jewish community also waiting in line.  It’s definitely a social scene complete w/ massive sunglasses…  Love.

On Sunday, Slick + I met Stac Shap + her other half for brunch at Goldberg’s.  As we were waiting to order, one of the servers whisked by our table carrying THIS:

what ARE you?!?

We weren’t sure what it was, but we knew we had to have it!  :)

Yeah, it’s a flagel.  FLAGEL = Flattened bagel.  (And, it’s soooo much better than a normal bagel!)  You better believe it.

Here’s the science:  After the bagel is boiled, but before it goes into the oven, it gets flattened.  It’s thinner than a regular bagel, easier to eat than a sandwich + much chewier – which is kind of fun.  We devoured it in minutes!

We ate our flagels w/ white fish + butter, but I think it would be delicious with hummus, any kind of creative flavored jam, a tapenade or bruschetta.

Head on over to Goldberg’s this weekend to try a flagel for yourself!  It just may blow your mind + change the way you view brunch altogether.  Or both.  (And, be sure to wave to me in line!  Naturally, I’ll be sporting my biggest shades.)
