Drink Your Calories?

Although I’ve heard it again and again – not to drink your calories – I love smoothies. They are just so darn convenient, tasty, portable and a seemingly efficient way to get your Vitamin C.  They are delicious after a long workout, comforting on a cold rainy day and refreshing on a sunny one!  Plus, they always satisfy my out-of-control sweet tooth…

Smoothie King has always been my favorite smoothie spot. Unfortunately, their smoothies are PACKED with hidden calories: http://www.cspinet.org/nah/10foods_bad.html.  (Check out #6.)  Yikes!!

People are starting to catch on and Smoothie King is stepping it up accordingly.  Next time you order a smoothie, ask the friendly SK employee to “Make It Skinny!” A number of smoothies at SK are sweetened with turbinado and honey.  When you order your smoothie “skinny,” they will leave out the turbinado – saving you a whopping 100 calories and 23 carbs! And, franky, it tastes exactly the same to me.

So, next time you make a smoothie run – don’t forget to “Make it Skinny.” And try Blueberry Heaven (my fav.) – but definitely check your teeth before talking with anyone after you drink it!  Just looking out for you…
