It’s the Little Things…

Believe it or not, I was actually in town this weekend – so Slick and I went on a date to Rathbun’s on Friday night.  We weren’t starving so we ordered cocktails (note: they make a killer vodka gimlet) and a few small plates.  Everything was delicious, as per usual.  After debating if we were brave enough to try the Roasted Bone Marrow (we were not), we ordered:

———-

- Ahi Tuna Tartare, Blood Orange Vinegar, Serranos:  my favorite!

- Thin & Raw Beef Sirloin, Smoked Salt, Truffle Mustard Aioli:  probably the best carpaccio i’ve ever had.

- Hot Smoked Salmon Tostadas w/ Habanero Cream Cheese:  slick’s favorite!

———-

- Daily Open-faced Ravioli:  ours had crab and some kind of fancy sausage.

- Lamb Scaloppini, Pancetta & Goat Gouda:  the sauce was absolutely incredible!

- Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Sesame Seeds, Serrano:  watch out – it’s fried.  was great, but prob wouldn’t recommend…  (can’t win them all!)

———-

- KROG (Candy) BAR:  enough said.

———-

- Drinks @ Krog Bar after our delicious dinner.  Didn’t see any famous folks this time walking off a set at Atlanta Stage Works, but I still had incredible company!

———-

I called three hours ahead of time and had no problem making an 8:30 p.m. reservation at Rathbun’s.  Maybe the honeymoon wore off??  Although it was the first time either of us had been to Rathbun’s when we easily got the reservation time we wanted and didn’t have to wait for our table (even with a reservation) - which had us worrying about the restaurant’s business in this economy, the place was still packed.  Service was still predictably excellent.  Kevin R. was still there to stop by the tables for a quick, “hello,” which is such a nice touch.

"hi, kevin!"

"hi, kevin!"

My favorite aspect of the evening, though, has to be my awesome floor-to-ceiling find in Rathbun’s ladies restroom:

Surprise Friday night dates, small plates and hidden artwork that makes you smile…it’s definitely the little things that count!

I wouldn’t worry too much about their business! Mike and I tried to call at 6:30pm for reservations on Saturday night and couldn’t get anything before 9:15pm. I’m guessing Rathbun’s is doing just fine!

I’ve heard that the bone marrow is actually quite taste…has a jello consistency but tastes like meat. Yum.
