Allow me to tell you a little story about the best meal I’ve ever eaten. No other meals even hold a candle to it. I am not sure that I will ever have another meal quite as fantastic. Brace yourselves.
Last year, I went on a date to Quinones. While it ultimately didn’t work out with the thoughtful gentleman who kindly took me to dinner, I am STILL thinking and talking about the meal. Prior to Quinones, I had the great luxury of going to Bacchanalia on two separate occassions for work engagements -but even Bacchanalia did not prepare me for Quinones…

Quinones at Bacchanalia
Here’s the Q+DD on Quinones at Bacchanalia:
Quinones at Bacchanalia is an elegant, intimate jewel box of a restaurant where diners enjoy a lavish prix- fixe multi-course culinary experience. The old-world Southern design features antique mirrors, hand-blown Venetian glass chandeliers and sconces, plush furniture and accents of chocolate brown to complete this petite room of timeless, elegance designed by Dominick Coyne. The restaurant opened to popular and critical acclaim in 2005 adjacent to sister restaurant Bacchanalia.
The culinary philosophy of Quinones stresses the use Southern ingredients to create an exquisite tasting menu that changes nightly. With David A. Carson as Chef de Cuisine, expect an ever-changing menu of seasonal ingredients presented in an innovative, re-creation of classic dishes, each one leaving you anticipating the next course. The restaurant is named for former Floataway Café General Manager James Quinones, a trusted and long time friend and associate of owners/chefs Quatrano and Harrison.

Dining Room at Quinones
Because I am a total foodie (or dork – call it what you like), I took the menu with me from that evening. Here’s a breakdown of our ten course meal:
- Slightly Cured & Smoked North Georgia Rainbow Trout with Local Radishes, Celery Heart, Blood Orange and Meyer Lemon Broth
- Terrine of Foie Gras, Baby Sugar Pears, Vanilla Ice Wine Syrup & Georgia Peanut Streusel
- Louisiana Crawfish & Dumplings with House Cured Country Ham & Moores Farm Broccoli (this was my favorite part of the meal)
- Gulf Red Snapper with Preserved Baby Fennel, Chantenay Carrots & Chervil Emulsion
- Japanese Kobe Beef with Shaved Perigord Truffles & Mushroom Consomme
- Palmetto Squab with Hakurei Turnips & Greens, Cranberry Beans, Hedgehog Mushrooms
- Glazed Veal Cheek with Parsnip, Spring Onion, Celeriac & Arugula
- Whipped Sweet Grass Dairy Fresh Goat’s Milk Cheese with Local Beets, Pistachio & Tarragon
- Honey Tangerine Float with Basil Froth
- Valrhona Chocolate Terrine, Milk Chocolate Mousse, Frozen Sel Gris Custard
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
If you ever have the opportunity or a super special occasion, I strongly recommend dining at Quinones – but only if you have five hours set aside for a meal (it takes the entire evening to eat there). It’s worth every penny and will surely be a meal you’ll never forget!
Bon appetit!
