There is this woman that I love – but all she does is cause me pain.
It’s only temporary, though. When it’s over, I forget how much spending time with her hurts me and I just think about seeing her again… Her name is Minaz. Isn’t that pretty? I won’t let you have HER (she is mine!), but there are others like her. Promise.
Minaz threads my eyebrows and she is amazing. She works at Hair Images off of N. Druid Hills in the Indian strip mall.
Q+DD on Threading (
www.wikipedia.com):
Threading is an ancient method of hair removal which originated in the Indian subcontinent, spread to the Middle and Far East, and is now gaining popularity in Western countries. It is equally popular with both men and women in Arab countries, although the men usually just do their ears and eyebrows with thread and continue to shave the beard part of their face with a traditional safety or straight razor. It is also popular in Persian culture where it is called
Bande Abru (“Abru” means eyebrow, and “Band” is the thread). Threading the entire face is widely spread amongst Iranians, but it was originally practiced when a woman was getting married or during special occasions. In ancient Persia, threading was a sign that a girl had reached adulthood and had become a woman.
Practitioners use a pure, thin, twisted cotton thread which is rolled over untidy hairlines, eyebrows and so on, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing where a single hair is pulled out each time, threading can remove an entire row of hair, resulting in a straighter line. As the top layers of skin are not peeled or traumatized, threading is an alternative for those with sensitive skin or who use Retin-A, Accutane and similar products.

I’ve been going to Minaz for four years and I’ve been really happy with my eyebrows. Although they offer other services at Hair Images in addition to threading, I think most people go for hair removal. They accept walk-ins and it is a pretty no-frills space, but the line is always out the door! I strongly suggest making an appointment. You will still have to wait, but it will only be for 10 minutes or so, and I’ve definitely waited a hour as a walk-in for the five minute threading treatment. Nuts!
Told you so…
